For decades, the world's high school and college students have been the beneficiaries of a unique education in politics, diplomacy, and foreign affairs. The Model United Nations experience brings to life the problems that face the real world and allows participants to represent their assigned country's position and work towards resolving issues of global importance.
Now in our 21st year, MUNUC has distinguished itself as the premier high school United Nations simulation in the country. MUNUC has received considerable national praise for its professionalism and overall quality.
MUN Team Advisors,
Registration for MUNUC XXI is now officially open. Feel free to visit www.munuc.org/register at your convenience to register for our conference, to be held from February 5-8, 2009.
Just a reminder: while we encourage you not to wait until the last minute (Friday, Sept. 19) to register, the process is not “first come first serve”. Earlier registrants will not be afforded any advantage over later registrants, but rather all schools which successfully register prior to the closing of registration on September 19, 2008 will be given the same opportunity to be assigned the countries of their choice and attend conference.
In addition to registering for conference, while planning your MUNUC XXI trip please consider coming earlier this year to experience more of Chicago. To facilitate this experience, I would encourage you to visit www.munuc.org/seechicago to view some of the available events to expand the educational experience that is MUNUC.
Please continue to check this site regularly, as new opportunities will be posted as arrangements are finalized. If you are interested in taking advantage of these pre-conference events, be aware that along with delegate rosters and hotel preferences, registration for these events will be due on Friday, November 14, 2008. Look for additional information about these events through our news feed and on the “See Chicago!” tab on the website.
Finally, we will again be providing MUNUC staff members to lead discussions at your school about the United Nations and the workings of Model UN and MUNUC. We will make every effort to extend the knowledge and expertise of our staff to you, and if you would like us to discuss a wide range of international issues that may interest your students at your school, information will soon be available at www.munuc.org/preparation. Alternatively questions about school visits should be addressed to mal@munuc.org.
As always, please feel free to address any questions or concerns to munuc@munuc.org, and we will get back to you in a timely fashion.
.
Dear Delegates, Advisors, and Friends,
My name is Stephanie Siu and I am the Secretary-General of the Model United Nations of the University of Chicago (MUNUC), one of the largest Model UN conferences in the United States attracting over 2,400 delegates from around the world annually. I would like to personally invite you and your school to participate in our conference this year for MUNUC XXI from February 5-8, 2009 at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel in Chicago.
This year more than ever, MUNUC is committed to bringing the most enriching educational experience possible to all of you. On committee side, that means incorporating fresh elements into the committees that we run. For instance, we will be running a continuous-crisis simulation of the U.S. National Security Council this year for the first time in MUNUC’s history. On conference side, that means continuing to bring in top-quality keynote speakers and other guests.
Our commitment to delivering this premier educational experience also extends beyond the conference itself. In particular, our outreach staff will be collaborating with a variety of local merchants and institutions from museums and art galleries to our University’s admissions office to arrange pre-conference events and opportunities suitable to delegates from around the world. We look forward to making your experience in Chicago as fulfilling as possible, so please consider these additional educational opportunities should you plan to attend our conference. Information regarding these pre-conference events will be posted on our website.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at secgen@munuc.org or at (773) 834-0547. I look forward to working with you in the coming year!
Sincerely,
Stephanie Siu, Secretary-General of MUNUC XXI
